Perea Preschool needs a playground of its own! Not only does the current playground pose safety concerns for our students, but it’s also difficult to schedule time for them to use it. Let’s build a playground together!
The Church Health Center of Memphis has been providing healthcare for the working uninsured of Shelby County for 29 years. But we’ve also been giving children a better educational start for 16 years at our preschool in North Memphis, Perea Preschool.
Located on the campus of Klondike Elementary, our Perea students must share a playground that was engineered for older children. Not only does the current playground pose safety concerns for our three and four-year-old students, but it's also difficult to schedule time for them to use it. Studies show that when children engage in active physical play, they perform better in school, maintain healthy body weights, gain tools to resolve problems peacefully, and think more creatively. That's why it's so important for our students to have a place of their own to play and thrive!
Help us build our Perea preschoolers their very own place to play and grow!
In Memphis alone, every year more than 4,000 children will not attend preschool. Those same children often do not have the support at home to give them the solid foundation key to their scholastic success. That lack of support often equates to a lack of success in life, long after the school years. Research shows that dollars invested early in a child’s life have a larger return than investing later. In medical circles, the adage “an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure” is often quoted, but this sentiment also holds true when it comes to education.
For 16 years, Perea Preschool has been an active learning environment where traditionally underserved children have become self-confident, creative, and socially well-adjusted. Perea prepares children for academic success through readiness, health and safety, and spiritual awareness.
Our program is a two-year commitment running from August through May. Perea requires an annual registration fee and tuition is based on a sliding scale. Perea also requires that all parents are active volunteers with the school. Perea Preschool serves 160 students and their families annually.
