I am raising money to sponsor & assist families that are in the process of recovery from substance use disorder/addiction, as well as families recovering from trauma (which includes domestic violence).
Women & Children that reside in a recovery house are there because it’s for people who have already gone to treatment, and they are looking to have a safe and clean environment to continue to build their foundation, getting jobs and moving forward in the recovery program. At this point insurances have typically stopped paying the cost of treatment services and these individuals are now sober learning to live life in a whole new world that they are not familiar with. It costs approximately $100/week for rent in a recovery house for one person. If that person is a mother and has her child it is then an extra $25/week for the child. These individuals can be evicted if rental payment is not made, therefore they end up homeless. Some women fear to have nowhere to return to other than the bridge they were sleeping under when they were using illegal substances. They do not want that, they want to continue to be sober, healthy contributing members of society that provide properly for their child. Women transitioning into these recovery houses in order to maintain a sober life, in safe housing with a warm bed to sleep in have hopes and dreams of college, job training, and gainful employment. They deeply desire to remain on a positive life path that enables them to be healthy parents. Employment is often hard to secure if an individual has limited employment history due to their substance use and or due to having limited transportation available. These women are not coming out of detox treatment with secure jobs and pockets full of money, they are simply thankful to come out sober. All donations go directly towards their housing fees to remain in a safe, stable, sober, and supportive environment while they work towards their goals of employment and education.
