Update #20

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has." -Margaret Mead

Thank you to all who have contributed towards our goal to bring joy to so many people; assisting at-risk youth and saying creative expression is important with your #heartsforthearts. Although we are still short on our goals, we will continue to push forward to create opportunities to support @tallerpr and the students they serve.

More Info

Cooks Who Care is a supportive community for food industry members who collectively encourage each other personally & professionally.  Together we have joined forces to be the change we want to see in the world, by supporting our "Mighty Underdog" charity Taller Puertorriqueno

Help us continue to build a “Peace Wall" that will be the extend the theme of community engagement to Taller through messages of hope and unity. The chalkboard canvas is more than just a photo op- it’s the start of a conversation that will last well beyond the Philly Art & Food 2016.

Learn more about the organization we are fighting for, and organization that has worked for more than 40 years to show the value of cultural acceptance and diversity. Studies show that arts education can encourage success for students of all socioeconomic levels, we want to show the students that Taller serves that people  outside of their neighborhood value them and their educations.

Meet Taller:

Did you know about this fantastic organization?  Maybe not, that's why we call them our "Mighty Underdog" Charity partner.  In Dec. 2016, http://www.tallerpr.org opened a brand new arts and culture building called El Corazón Cultural Center, solidifying them as PA's largest Latino arts organization. It will be a home to Philadelphia’s vibrant Latino art community & to the many children, neighbors, and community members that Taller has uplifted through education and outreach programs since its founding 42 years ago.

How You Can Help?

Funds donated to Taller Puertorriqueño will help us give a gift of peace and acceptance to inspire at-risk students by showing them that strangers care about low-income neighborhoods.  Share your positive messages of hope by donating to our cause. Your donation will build a large scale canvas, where we can continue collect your messages following the Philly Art & Food event.

This January, the Peace Wall will go home to Taller’s new home in the El Corazón Cultural Center as a gift that will remind them of not only a wonderful night of art, food, and diversity- but of the lasting impact of a community coming together.

Allow more students to engage with the arts in this new 25,000-sq ft. facility and give them a chance to see beauty in this world.  As public schools take away funding for art/culture programs, your donation tells these children that their creativity matters too.

With this expansion, Taller Puertorriqueño assumes a greater responsibility to maintain their strong ties to their Latino neighborhood.  Your donation strengthens their mission to promote and further the understanding of Puerto Rican and other Latino identities in Philadelphia.

Financial support is a direct investment in the preservation and elevation of Latino art and culture in our own community. Taller’s engaging programming has encouraged pride of Puerto Rican and Latino culture, and is stimulating conversations that create opportunities for you to join us in building lasting connections with dedicated advocates across this great city.

El Corazón Cultural Center will allow Taller Puertorriqueño to expand their existing programs. Your donation allows the great work they do continue. See how:

  • Education: Taller’s education program reaches out to the deep desire to learn and create. Children from ages 5-18 have access to summer camps, cultural exploration programs, young artist programs, and after-school programs. Educational opportunities, led by a group of bilingual artist and teachers, introduce children to a creative outlet to explore their culture while building self-esteem.

  • Exhibitions: The gallery at Taller Puertoriqqueño is the only space in the region dedicated solely to displaying work by Puerto Rican and Latino artists, giving voice to contemporary artists from the local community and beyond.

  • Outreach: Building community is central to Taller Puertorriqueño’s mission. Outreach programs engage people of all ages through a wide variety of mediums.

Taller Puertorriqueño has been “building community through art” for over four decades.  During that time, the depth and need of that mission has outgrown their previous location.  Beauty is for all and Taller's neighbors will see first-hand with see how the construction of the El Corazón Cultural Center will bring beauty to their neighborhood.

Your contribution supports Taller’s program expansion reach to a larger number of children and youth, from the current 60 participants per semester to 160.

Join Cooks Who Care in showing Taller Puertrorriqueño that even strangers have #HeartsfortheArts.

Update #13

Build a Wall for Peace! Get ahead of #Givingtues!
Promote peace with us: https://fundly.com/philly-art-food-2016

We firmly believe #connection is the MOST important element in our Cooks Who Care group. As hosts of the Philly Art & Food 2016 event, we are working with an organization who preserves Latino Heritage, Taller Puertorriqueño. Bridging cultures together by having fun we decided to build a wall, not to divide our groups, but to create messages for #peace, #love & #acceptance.

Sponsor a “Place for Peace” to support your neighbors’ self-expression or donate “Building Materials” from @theresourceexchange to create a message board for valuing diversity, illuminating the love we have for all.
