Dan Myers Lazerpro Owner Proposes Independent

Penn State Football Hall of Fame

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Dan Myers, the principal owner of the State College-based multi-media company Lazerpro, has proposed the creation of an off-campus, independent Hall of Fame featuring the history of Penn State football.

Myers, who is publisher of the websites StateCollege.com and OnwardState.com, has pledged $10,000 to establish the hall and the creation of a non-profit foundation to oversee it.

The Hall of Fame would cover all 126 years of Penn State and would ideally be situated in downtown State College, within walking distance of Penn State’s University Park campus, Myers said.

“The Hall of Fame would feature a complete history of Nittany Lion football, and would include Coach Joe Paterno and every single victory by Penn State – regardless if they were arbitrarily ‘vacated’ or not -- since the first year the sport was established at Penn State in 1887,” said Myers, a 1992 graduate of Penn State.

Myers envisions the single-sport museum as a venture distinctly separate and independent from the overall university. It would include, Myers said, videos, displays, memorabilia, and recognition of all former and current players and coaches. A model for the hall, Myers said, would be the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum, situated in a large brick rowhouse a few blocks from Baltimore’s Camden Yards.

“We want the Hall of Fame to pay special attention to the 2012 Penn State football team who stayed, Coach Bill O'Brien and his staff, ensuring that their sacrifices, loyalty and achievements will be remembered for the next 100 years – and beyond,” said Myers.

“While it will include all of the actual history of the football program, it will also cover the sorry chapter of the scandal that embroiled the university. And will not minimize the effects of child abuse. A portion of the admission that will be used to support the museum will be contributed to fight childhood sexual abuse.”

Donations and pledges of $10,000 or more will be honored by a plaque in the museum.
