Update #4

Thank you to all of the kindness and generosity of so many family and friends (loved ones as mom likes to say), between the two ways to donate that we set up we have reached the "goal" we set to help mom and dad. And saying that it is appreciated doesn't begin to scratch the surface. I could spend the next 90 minutes writing down all the goodness that has been done for them and for our family in the last 2 weeks. Thank you for helping us and most especially thank you for praying for our mom (and dad).

More Info

Family and Friends,

Our mom has had some health issues over the last year and a half and as it worsened this fall she finally decided to go to a doctor.  After many tests ending with a biopsy they have diagnosed endometrial cancer with a recommendation of a complete hysterectomy and radiation.  They have classified her cancer as a grade 3 which is the most aggressive.  They are still not sure yet as to the stage of her cancer but will know more very soon with a CT scan and surgery this week.

They were hoping to wait until March 1st to begin her “battle” against the cancer because that is unfortunately when their insurance coverage begins, but were advised strongly by 3 different oncologists and family members (who are doctors), that with the type and aggressiveness of the cancer she has, days matter at this point, and they should do whatever they needed to do so they can get her into surgery as soon as possible.

The initial surgery, appointments and follow up are being done this week and will be paid for out of pocket.  There will be a large deductible once their insurance kicks in the beginning of March.

It is for those reasons along with the requests of so many to be able to help financially in some way that we have set up a way to contribute.

We’ve set up two different ways to donate.  One is a Wells Fargo donation account called the Peggy Haynie Cancer Fund where you can make a fee-free donation at any Wells Fargo location (just mention the name of the "donation" account you do not need an account with them).  The other way to donate is through this website Fundly.com.

This is not something that our parents want to do (they would never do it for themselves); but at the urging of family members and friends we are setting it up, knowing that it will make a major difference in allowing them to focus on Mom getting the best treatment, and not being as emotionally hindered by the financial ramifications of her treatment long-term.

We don’t know how to adequately express love and appreciation for you and your love and concern for Mom.  We have already felt it and have heard her express many times how supported and loved they are feeling; which is probably really the most helpful to them of all.

GOOD NEWS!!!

An email from dad and mom:
Loved ones:

Thanks to all your prayers and support we'll be heading home much happier.

We checked out with the doctor this morning and got the pathology report. Not only did they not find any cancer outside the endometrial lining, the totality of the cancer they did find evaluated to a grade 2 instead of a grade 3, meaning radiation is not recommended.

Instead Peggy will be doing intensive regular followups in Dallas on a pretty constant schedule to verify that she remains cancer free. The specimens will be rechecked for a second opinion in Dallas and the doctor there will set the followup schedule but we were told at least monthly for the first 90 days, every 90 days for a year and semi-annually after that.

We have clearly felt and seen the hand of the Lord in answer to all your prayers. Thank you for all your love and prayers. We feel so blessed to be in this place and time surrounded by all of you.

Update after surgery

We all were able to talk to mom and dad via google chat tonight. She is tired and in pain, but doing well. The prognosis will not be given until hopefully Monday, but as far as the surgeon himself could see (and from the MRI), the cancer has not spread. Today we literally saw a miracle happen which was because of so many prayers that were offered for her. THANK YOU. As soon as she is a little more "alert", we'll have her read all your messages/posts. It's been a happy night.

Glad to hear that the cancer has not spread, and I hope that's the official prognosis when the final results come back. All my prayers!

Mom's update

Mom will have her CT scan first thing in the morning followed by surgery at noon. It will be the step to finding out where the cancer is at. We will be praying all day for the oncologist working with her and for her to feel peaceful.
