More Info

Pearl Tuma was sentenced to a natural life/death-in-prison sentence in 1980 for a tragic death that would not have occurred had she not been trying to free herself and her only child from their abuser. After 40 years, Pearl has been granted clemency, for which we thank Governor Pritzker, but most of all, the many of you who sent letters, made calls, wrote to Pearl and sent mutual support fund via Callidarity. This ALL mattered. We get free together.

Most of all, cheers to Pearl herself, who felt very close to giving up. Pearl spent her time teaching fellow survivors how to read, how to heal, and many have come home since and stayed free. In the time Pearl has been fighting to survive and get home she lost her daughter to cancer.

Thankfully Pearl has a whole community of supporters who are happy to welcome her, and to honor her fight. Pearl has come out committed to the release of all those survivors still inside. Let's work together to free them all, but also the get Pearl some essentials, like clothes, a winter coat, shoes, and a nice walker, so she can keep it moving and continue organizing and advocating out here in community.
