We need your support! Help send PBOC to Jackson, MS so we can continue to build leadership among working-class and African American residents of Point Breeze, Philadelphia.
We raised Ociele's training fees and he went to NYC for the SOUL training!! Thank you all for supporting us so generously and making it possible for Ociele to attend this training.
Now we are on our way to raising funds to go to Jackson, Mississippi for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Freedom Summer.
Who we are
The Point Breeze Organizing Committee (PBOC) is a grassroots community organization based in the South Philadelphia neighborhood of Point Breeze. We are a coalition of old and new residents who are committed to building working class political power in our city. As an organization, we are in the infant stage, deliberately and excitedly building, while quickly realizing that organizational infrastructure and capacity are essentail to our long-term success.
So, as a step in building the infrastructure necessary to sustain PBOC as an organization, we are doing many things in order to increase our capacity as a truly grassroots organization. And one component is creating an annual budget for the work we have set out to do in 2014. Within our budget, we have collectively decided to travel and attend the 50th anniversary of the Freedom Summer in Jackson, Mississippi in June 2014. There, we will have the opportunity to connect with other groups doing similar work, learn lessons from veteran community organizers, as well as bring back a sharpened analysis of how to more powerfully engage in our work in Philadelphia.
As a way to jumpstart our fundraising efforts, we have set a fast-approaching fundraising goal of $2,000 by May 1st, 2014.
The money raised will be allocated towards travel costs for us to attend the Freedom Summer organizer's conference. Two thousand dollars covers all of our anticipated costs for travel to Mississippi, registration fees, food and lodging.
