This year, Tap In Leadership Academy celebrates six years of life-changing work enhancing educational achievement, supporting leadership development, and captivating cultural awareness.
Staying after school is not something most kids would look kindly to. But every Monday through Thursday during the school year, 7-year-old Lundyn finds himself staying late. And liking it.
For three hours each day during the Afterschool Enrichment Program (AEP), Tap In’s scholars first work with tutors on their homework. Then they have various enrichment activities for language, art, culture, or nutrition. And on good-weather days – which Lundyn loves – the basketballs come out for some scrimmage.
“At Tap In, Lundyn is surrounded by role models that help him set goals and stay active,” says his mother, Raynelle. “They’ve helped him establish good homework habits and bring up his grades.”
Tap In has been a life-saver for Raynelle too. The single mother treks back and forth to a full-time customer service job, in Rantoul, five days a week. Knowing Lundyn has a safe, educational, energizing place to be until he can be picked up gives her peace of mind. By the time he gets home, his homework is done and he has already eaten dinner.
We hope you'll join us in bringing more engaging enrichment programs to kids like Lundyn - for another six years and beyond!
