Dear friends and family:

40 is a big milestone. I want this birthday to mean something more. I am asking should you want to give me a gift, please donate to the Endometriosis Foundation of Houston. The best gift anybody can give this year is to help this foundation get off the ground. We are raising money to help pay for the legal costs involved in creating a non-profit organization.  Having the 501(c)(3) status will allow us to seek grants and to start our programs (group therapy, education, treatments).

This cause is important to me because I suffered from endometriosis from my teenage years all the way to 2018. I’ve had 4 surgeries, 2 hospitalizations, complications with Ronan’s birth that are all attributable to endo. Up until last year, my mental and physical wellness were always an issue because of the pain caused by endometriosis.

Endometriosis is a disease that affects an estimated 1 in 10 women and girls. It occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus is found outside the uterus. Endometriosis lesions, which cause a breakdown in surrounding tissue, resulting in bleeding and the formation of scar tissue, can be found almost anywhere in the body: the bowels, rectum, outside surface of the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, liver, lungs, and more.

According to endometriosis specialist Dr. John Dulemba (Denton, Texas), “It’s not a malignancy. It’s not cancer, but the symptoms it produces are so life-interfering that it feels like a life-threatening problem. They can’t function.”

The mission of the EFHou is to raise awareness of endometriosis and related conditions, and to improve the quality of life of individuals affected by this disease in the greater Houston area. We strive to be Houston’s trusted partners in endometriosis awareness, advocacy, education, support, fundraising, and research.

Please help me celebrate my 40th with a gift to less pain.
