Out of the Hole and Into Production Many of you who know me know that I finance my own work. I don’t have a producer, or a sponsor or a patron of the arts. I wish I did, but its not happening in this lifetime.
Wow! I had resigned myself to thinking I wasn't going to make my ultimate goal, but now I am so close I thought I'd send out one more appeal...
Just $530.00 away, and one day left. I'm not sure if that means until midnight, or tomorrow, but if you've been thinking about being a part of the new films I'll be working on, clock is ticking!
Thank you Steve and Kathy Schaack-you two have done so much for me-one day I'll be able to do something great for you, and I will. xxoo.
In the meantime, here is a picture of someone we all love-from Tallgrass 2016!
It is the final two days on my Crowdfunding campaign for the new projects. I am $680 away from my goal. I'm probably not going to hit it. BUT it is my 2nd goal. I did for the first time ever, hit my original goal on this campaign, thanks to you. And almost made it to the 2nd one. And that is amazing to me. I guess I just got a little too ambitious. But thank you to all 33 supporters-thanks for helping me to expand what I believe was possible, and for helping me get some new work done and out into the world. I feel way less alone than I did at the start of this. I'll work hard to make you proud you were a part of the next films.
Special thanks to Kristin Peterson and Michelle Penfold for your contributions-I appreciate you both very much!
And if you have been thinking about donating, or wanted to send a little love my way...I'd love it! 2 days to go...
After a week in Beloit and a couple days in Las Cruces, watching films and hanging out with filmmakers, I am ready ready ready to get back into production. By the end of this month I’ll be doing it. If you would like to help please check out my Fundly page-only four days left to get to our goal.
Hey Everyone- My fundraising campaign has just 5 days left, and I am only 725 dollars away from my ultimate goal for this campaign. I would really like to hit it. It will make my production work easier, without the debilitating stress of money, money, money on my mind. In just a few weeks I’ll be headed out to…..Wisconsin (!) to make the first two of seven projects I want to complete this year.
I appreciate EVERY single one of you who have reached out to help me make my dreams come forth, and have shared a link and respect for my work. You will probably see me ask a few more times in the next few days. Learning to ask has been the big win for me in this campaign. I guess before I was afraid of people judging me, but as in all areas of my life these days, I just don’t care about that so much anymore.
What I care about is putting the best work I am able to, out into the world. I have a record of doing this, and you can be a part of it. So please help me out if you are able, Truly everything is a contribution. I mean that.
And a great big, huge, deep, thank you to Fred Kepler, Mark Davis and Jan Jensen Davis, and once again more love from Sabrina Kelly-Krejci! You 4 people are awesome individuals with big hearts and tons of creativity. I will prove your faith in this work is justified and one day will be able to repay your kindness. Love you guys.
Finally, if you are in Omaha this Sunday, and love being moved by great films, you should check out Jan and Marks’ award-winning film “The Bear and The Owl” at 2pm as part of the Omaha Film Festival. At Beloit International Film Festival last week, they added FOUR additional showings and still every screening sold out! Amazeballs!
One of my current films, High Signs, just received it's 6th award, and I am delighted to let my regular team now about this. And as my current films begin to wind down from their festival tours, I am looking towards the new.
There are 9 days left in my fundraising campaign. I am still 860 dollars away from the goal, and would love to see something miraculous happen to push me over this one. Will be starting preproduction immediately when this campaign is over, with whatever we have. We are working on two new documentary ideas as our first two projects of many for 2017. One is a story about a real deal blues master, and the other can't quite announce yet. But they should both be films that are real and genuine, and tell some stories that need to be told. Looking at a shoot time for both between the third week in March and the end of April, with post finished by June. The new films are firmly set and we have a set budget, but just that extra 860 dollars will make a huge difference in making the films a whole lot better. For the coming films, I will be able to pay my key people something, not a lot, but something. I've been wanting to move into this for a long time so thank you everyone who has already contributed.
If you have been thinking about donating or supporting me, please do it now. When filmmakers say anything helps, it really does. Even 5 dollars. It gets a momentum going, and when a lot of people do even just a little, a lot can be raised and you will see it on the screen.
I used to think I was too broke to donate in a meaningful way, but would always try to send 10 dollars when a friend had a fundraiser. And always the filmmaker would let me know how much it helped and how grateful they were. And i could tell they meant it. So be a part of what I am doing if you like. I want to make good work constantly with whatever time I have here on planet earth. You can support this work now, and be a part of bringing something good into existence. Thank you!
And a huge shout-out to Sabrina Kelly-Krejci, who has been beyond generous. She sent a 2nd donation and she is AWESOME!
Wow! My fundraising campaign for the 2017 projects is going great guns, greater than I could even imagine when I put it up there. Well I did imagine great things but didn’t really believe it could do this well. What other good things could come?
Thank you to our newest donor AND another producer on my next project, Robert S. Gregory. After a looooong day at a boring horrible low pay job, late night before drifting off I check my email and fundly page and BAM! we are over 2/3 of the way to my second goal, and just 24 days left to get there.
Thank you Robert for your generosity and support of my work, and for the very kind words that accompanied it. A am amazed at every one of the “funding angels” who are being a part of this work now. It is amazing to me to see so many people, contributing, sharing the post, and cheering me on. And the words of many of you, words of support and encouragement of what I am doing and attempting, these mean more than 10 chests of gold. Thank you. And thank you again Robert for joining in as a producer!
If you haven’t yet donated, and even if you have, there is still time to be a part of my first ever SUCCESSFUL fundraiser. I am going to remember this group of people forever. You can join them, and get an Associate Producer, Producer or even Executive Producer credit on my next film and on IMDB. You can watch a number of my festival films. You can get a shout out on Social Media. You can help me now when I need the help. And you can be a part of my work moving to the next level. Check it out if you wish!
And thank you to everyone of you who shared a post, sent me good wishes, or donated. I appreciate you.
Wow!! Wow!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!
Never in my wildest dreams when I did my first campaign a few years ago did I ever imagine I could have this many people supporting my work and supporting me.
We made it! Hit my goal!! Thank you everyone! I'm going to a minute and let this soak in. I appreciate every one of you.
Thanks to a special songbird who is anonymous, and to my Tallgrass 2014 Brother Forever @Alex Reinhard I love you brother. And my dear friend Rose Dopplick-words cannot express. I told Rose in an email I feel a sacred duty now to do something good with the faith you have all placed in me.
And the campaign is live for another 28 days. So I am raising my goal to 3000. I am out of the danger zone, and everything now goes away in the savings account to bring to life the productions I have planned for this year. 2 music videos, a dark drama that will bring a problem out of the shadows, and a couple of docs, one at least featuring someone we all know and love...ahem.
Whether or not I hit my 2nd goal, I have to tell you I feel good. Content. Satisfied. Hell, I feel GREAAAATTT! Now I am just going to play to see how much I can raise to make the new work as good as it can possibly be. Did I say thank you? Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. And thank you. And before I go, a little picture of Alex Reinhard at Tallgrass 2014 cracking me up.
Oh, and thank you.
Things had slowed down here and then BAM! Filmmakers to the rescue. Thank you Tracey Anaralla, a filmmaker of grace and intelligence and beauty. It's been a blast playing the Alamo together two years in a row. Let's try for three! And Nicholas Thurkettle- a newer filmmaker who did not stop after his first film, but went right to work and got his sophomore effort out and to the festivals. I am humbled to be supported by filmmakers I respect. Thank you.
It seems like every year there is one filmmaker I meet on the festival circuit who has made a film that is so good I spend the next year championing it wherever I can. James Choi is that filmmaker now, and his brilliant film "Empty Space" is the film I talk about.
The film will be screening at SF Indiefest, and if you are anywhere near, go to see it. If I can ever make something like this I will have done something.
And so it feels great to have James support of my campaign here, he is helping me to keep the dreams alive! Thank you James!
If you have been thinking about maybe supporting me and my work it would be appreciated and now would be great time-we are not far from 75% of our goal! Thank you for considering and thanks to everyone who has donated or shared a link or just sent me good wishes. Best.
Thank you so much Rosalie Moncado for donating. It helps a lot, almost 50% towards my goal, and I will breathe a real sign of relief when I hit that.
If I did believe in a God, I would have to believe that he put you into my life because he knew I needed a strong angel lioness around. I wouldn't be making films at all if you had not been in my life. Thanks.
Things have slowed to a stop here on my fundly page. If you have enjoyed any of my films and have ever thought about supporting them or me, today would be a great day-I could use your help! Donations, shares or your best wishes are all welcome and energy moving.
I was feeling a wee bit morose as everything seemed dead on the 2nd day here, but then...
We passed the 25% mark!! Thank you everyone who donated or shared or just sent me a private message wishing me well. Here I am working away on the script for "Surreptitious Blue". That film AND "I Wasn't Always A Blond" are the next two projects that I'll be making and getting out to the world.
So thankful to "Anonymous" and to my friend of many years Debbi Sprinkle and to Dear Meredith Dumyahn-you three saved my day and pushed me over the first goal post!! And Meredith- the support that comes my way from Springfield is so wonderful-I've gotten so much nurturing there. Come next Rt. 66 Film Festival, I'm not letting ANYTHING get in my way of getting back and seeing you Meredith, if the car breaks down I'm hitchhiking the rest of the way. Arizona and California-I'm gonna get there too! Love to all three of you. And all of you. World Without End. Amen!
Our first day of the campaign has passed and I am feeling a little overwhelmed with your love. Truly I feel it and I thank all of you. A lot of you have already seen all the films, but I remind you please let me what you would like to see so I can send you the link and the password. And tomorrow I will emailing everyone an mp3 of the very beautiful and moving music that my brilliant composer created for In The Blink. It is amazing to have talent like his working on my visions, and to have people like all of you supporting my dreams. It has become very clear what films are the next ones I should be working on and I'll be letting you know about that in my next update. All the best to all of you. D-
We are very close to hitting 25% of our goal!! Thank you Jason Downer, Christina Macias, Kirsten Russell and Chad Henninger for making donations during the night. I appreciate you!! And thank you all for the sharing also.
