I am Cadet Lieutenant Commander Eduardo E. Vargas, a senior attending Henry County High School “HCHS” and Executive Officer “XO” of the HCHS NJROTC Program. Through the HCHS WarHawk Battalion, I have become Captain of the Reigning Four Time National Champion Orienteering Team. The O-team, as we refer to ourselves, has become a shining star for Henry County High School.

The O-team has grown over the last seven years to become the powerhouse it is today. This O-team has thirty-six young men and women from various backgrounds and grade levels who work tirelessly to train and raise the funds needed to compete in this little known sport. As stated earlier, our team won our forth National Championship and is looking forward to defending our title again this year at Navy Nationals in Orlando, Florida and All Joint Services in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Many of the Cadets who have since graduated have been accepted to various Universities or have enlisted in the various branches of military service.

The Orienteering team maintains an ambitious schedule that enables us the opportunity to defend our title due to the outstanding efforts of my teammates. This requires funding beyond what the school receives from the Navy and the Henry County School District. The funds that are raised will go directly toward supporting the training, competitions, trips and special events.

At the beginning of every season, Senior Chief Petty Officer David Moss, Naval Science Instructor and Orienteering Coach, has a meeting with Cadets and Parents. During this meeting he states his mission for the season as well as the cost for the cadets to participate. The cost for this 2017-2018 season is $2,330. Because of this cost many cadets cannot participate due to financial reasons. Because of the cost of Orienteering, I was hoping that you could help by sponsoring me financially. If you are able to sponsor me with a donation, you will receive a personal thank you letter along with a receipt that you may use for a tax deduction. I promise that your generosity will make a huge difference.

Thank you in advance for your support,

Eduardo E. Vargas
