Zambia with the population of 16.2 million people has 66% of the people poor,70% are unemployed, year in year out school levers join the employment market, but the mining sector which was once the largest employer has its own challenges.hope now is in Tourism and Agriculture industry,The Agriculture sector has cotton, sugar and maize sector contributing to it.The cotton sector has collapsed, because of low demand for lint locally and reduced prices internationally. The maize sector,is funded by Government in marketing and inputs and they are delays in inputs and payments forcing failure of the crop and currently half of the nation received almost no rainfall, making people have serious food security challenges. The sugar industry has most players large cooperates running it.
we have opportunity as sunflower value chain to reduce these challenges, because,we still import cooking because what we produce as a nation is not enough,we have a large traction because 70% of the people living on agriculture can be employed by our initiative.Sunflower grows with less demand for rain and can also help the livestock sector with feeds.
