A little bit of context

Wild Horse Disaster Response is a nonprofit corporation that harnesses the power of volunteers to provide a faster response to South Texas when a disaster strikes. Wild Horse Disaster Response provides aid during wildfires, hurricanes, and floods. Wild Horse Disaster Response will do this by strategically partnering with emergency response organizations, agencies, and resources that will significantly streamline the process taken for those impacted by disasters to receive aid, support, and resources.

But there’s a problem

According to United Nations research, rising sea levels in the coming years will likelyincrease the vulnerability of coastal areas, increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. Moreover, developed countries will be affected by heavier rainfall bursts, droughts, and heatwaves. Combined with these findings, the trends experienced in the United States over the five years to 2021 suggest that the prevalence of natural disasters will increase over the five years to 2026 as well. Over the past five years, the intensity and damage of hurricanes, tornadoes and fires have strengthened. Although the number of officially declared disasters has varied dramatically during the current five-year period, reflecting a long-term rise in the occurrence of natural climate-related disasters.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

Wild Horse Disaster Response’s major service is meeting the short and long-term needs of disaster-affected communities throughout South Texas. Wild Horse Disaster Response has a strong volunteer base and works alongside community members to build disaster-resilient communities. As a disaster response and first responder support group, Wild Horse Disaster Response seeks to be readily available to respond to South Texas and the rest of the state when a disaster strikes.
