My Dad, Kameswara Rao Katuri (age 57), suffered a cerebral hemorrhagic stroke 10 days after visiting me in US. I am raising this fund to help us in managing expenses for surgeries and recovery cost.
I am trying to raise this fund for my Dad, Kameswara Rao Katuri (age 57), who is fighting his death and desperately needs economic help. Unfortunately he suffered from a cerebral hemorrhagic stroke on February 7th 2020 around 1:30 AM in the middle of night. We called 911 and he was admitted to ICU and was under critical care for the following 8 days to control the bleeding, avoid swelling and infection in brain.
Medical condition and statusDoctors mentioned that CT scans and other diagnosis revealed moderate to large amount of bleeding in his left brain. This resulted in right-side paralysis and cerebral midline shift of 4mm. He lost his speaking ability, partial memory, and sensation and control of right arm and leg. In the first few days after bleeding, he also lost his ability to swallow throat fluids, which led to infection in his lungs (Pneumonia). Lungs infection was controlled and treated with anti-biotics while he was on ventilator in ICU. Based on examinations, Doctors (Neuro) have recommended us to read on aphasia(a medical condition under which patient suffers from speech disability) and apraxia(a neurological disorder to perform learned/familiar movement) and be familiar with the kind of long-term care and treatment he will need.At present, he is undergoing treatment in non-ICU room to maintain his vital medical signs.
NeedTo not give up on insurance, we have filed an appeal on his behalf with his insurance company, but we are uncertain on how long we’ll be able to fight.Doctors have recommended physical and speech therapy at an acute rehab facility. The first few months after stroke are very crucial to regain abilities. Without proper care and timely therapy, he might never be able to walk and speak again. He needs continuous care and daily therapy. Our minimum expectation of rehab program would be to get medical clearance for air-travel to his home country (India).
Our goal is to raise $100,000 for treatment, therapy, and rehab so that he becomes medically fit to travel in June and continue his treatment in India. The cost contributors are 10 days in ICU, 21 days in hospitals, Physicians fee, several CT scans and X-rays, rehab, therapy, and other medical diagnosis. We know this is a lot to ask for, but we are in need now. Your donation would be a tremendous help in this difficult time. I, along with my mom and sibling (Tejaswi Katuri), express deep gratitude for your financial and emotional help. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
