My Medical School Dream

My Medical School Dream

From Gisselle Bustillo

I need to pay two semesters in advance before I can complete the last 18 mo. of my medical school training. I'm unable to come up with it on my own; I do not qualify for financial aid or student loans.

I arrived in the U.S. on June 10, 2007. I was only 18 y/o and carried with me one suitcase and $100 in my pocket (that was everything my parents could give me). I had a dream; many called it crazy and unrealistic, many said it was impossible for a girl from a third-world country with no money to become a doctor in the United States. Many years have gone by, and I have made it this far thanks to a few fantastic friends and sometimes strangers who gave me a helping hand. Today I'm 18 months away from finally seeing my dream of becoming a doctor come true, but I have yet one more wall to climb. I currently hold a job at a local coffee shop which allows me to pay for living expenses, I have been attending classes at an online university for a Masters degree in Healthcare Administration which allowed me to cover tuition for the first two years but I will be completing that degree this December.

Unfortunately, all that is not enough, once again I am leaping in faith and hoping that God will touch the hearts of friends or strangers so that I can finally see my dream come to fruition.

It is with a humble heart that I ask for your support.

Sincerely,

Gisselle L. Bustillo
