Join me in helping to rebuild this historic campus and honor the firefights who saved the Ojai Valley, the OVS firefighters wall, improving the safety of my school, and serving as a reminder to those who saved it.
Short Version: A wildfire destroyed a portion of my school. For my Boy Scout Eagle Project, I am here to rebuild 200 feet of retaining wall meant to protect our solar panels and deter wild animals from getting on campus. I would also like to take the opportunity to use the fence to commemorate the firefighters who stood their ground on that hill and stopped the fire from swallowing our entire school, a "Firefighter's wall."
The Thomas Fire ripped through much of coastal Southern California last December, taking 281,000 acres with it. At the time it was the largest fire in California history, although it no longer is, it doesn’t change the fact that it destroyed over 1,000 structures.
Two of these structures were the science and technology building at my school, along with the entirety of the girls dorm. These two buildings were the largest and newest additions onto our small, hilltop campus.
These devastating losses didn’t prevent us from moving forward, we resumed school one month later with temporary facilities replacing those we lost. We are now in the early stages of rebuilding those lost facilities.
However, with those being our highest priority, smaller things destroyed or damaged by the fire will remain lost until after we have the resources to expand our attention onto different things.
One of the aforementioned objects destroyed is about 200 feet of retaining wall that protected the solar panels on our hillside, which allow us to be nearly 100% self reliant with our energy. I am here today to raise money that’ll allow me to rebuild the fence with your help.
As my Boy Scout Eagle Project I will rebuild the retaining wall around the solar panels. This project would not only fulfill the requirements for my project guidelines, but it would allow my school to continue focusing its attention on the previously mentioned projects.
This can only be made possible with your contribution, all proceeds will go to this wall, and any excess money will go into the rebuilding funds for the school.
I understand there are currently wildfires in parts of California and this by no means should draw attention away from it. I have been planning this project for months now and that's just how the timing ended up to be.
