Using improvisational music therapy, my project will attempt to help individuals from marginalized groups become aware of how aspects of their identities may be well-integrated and how other aspects may be in conflict. Being that our identities are socially constructed, this exploration of intersectionality will open discussion about how Western society’s hegemonic system impacts how we see ourselves. The hope is that through this musical reflection of the self, participants may begin to find balance amongst their various identities and improve their mental wellness. This project is near and dear to my heart, as I myself have struggled with finding peace with aspects of my identity. As a black gay male, I've often felt out of place in many spaces and have struggled with self-acceptance, internalized racism, and truly being able to present my whole self. I want to provide others with the opportunity to explore all aspects of their identities and begin to work towards integrating all aspects of their identities. I want to make this project as good as it can possibly be, but in order to do so, I need your help. The money you donate will go towards purchasing instruments that will not only be used for this project but also for future music therapy endeavors that will help promote social justice within my community.  Please help me, make difference. Thank you.
