Movember Fund Raiser

Movember Fund Raiser

From Cody Swede

I'm growing a mustache for Movember this year. Why? - Men die 6 years earlier on average - 75% of suicide deaths are men, with 1 death occurring every minute - Prostate & testicular cancer research is underfunded

Update #1

What a week. My mustache looks like I just got done eating crushed up Oreos with a spoon. It’s… not great. I can see in my wife's eyes that she desperately wants me to shave this thing. I will not. Pray for me.

This week’s topic is mental health.

Globally, a man commits suicide once a minute. 75% of suicide deaths are men. It’s the leading non-accident cause of death for men aged 20-44, and is only .1% away from being the leading non-accident cause of death for men aged 1-19.

Most men say that their family and friends would jump at the chance to help them if they needed it, yet the majority of men surveyed say that they’d feel uncomfortable talking to their friends or family about their mental health struggles. Something has to change.

If you or a loved one are contemplating suicide, contact National Suicide Prevention Lifeline on 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK). Or call a friend or family member right away. Studies show that the time between the decision to commit suicide and the act itself is generally less than 1 hour. Meaning you might not need that information now, but some day you could, and when you need it you need it NOW. Print off the contact information. Hang it on your fridge, just in case. It might save a life some day, and that life might even be your own.

Movember is a charity dedicated to men’s health. It’s a global, year-round charity that focuses mainly on mental health, prostate cancer, and testicular cancer.

Thank you to Tina, Dan, Raj, and Steve who have donated already. Thanks to their generous donations (and others), we’ve hit $150 already after the first week!

As promised, I’ve attached a photo. There will be another one next Friday.

Let's change the face of men's health this November.
