POETRY FOR THE PEOPLE!

The Modesto-Stanislaus Poetry Center promotes poetry in Stanislaus County and Stanislaus County through poetry. Here are the things we do:

  • We go to senior communities, schools, clubs and organizations, outdoor festivals and art galleries, and other interesting places to bring ALL the poetry to you!
  • We publish a chapbook of youth poetry every year.
  • We administer the City of Modesto Poets Corner Contest.
  • We host several poetry readings: the monthly Second Tuesday Poetry and the quarterly Poetry on Sundays series.
  • We purchase entire poetry libraries for local elementary schools.
  • We have poets with typewriters who type impromptu, magical Poetry on the Spot.
  • We run Stanislaus County's annual Poetry Out Loud contest.
  • We partner with the Carnegie Arts Center to bring you poetry-related family nights.
  • We partnered with the Carnegie to bring Juan Felippe Herrera to Turlock for weekend of poetry readings and workshops in the schools.

We usually have a big fundraising party with poetry and guitars at the Barkin' Dog every April, where we raise about $1500 via ticket sales and silent auction sales. But we didn't get to do that in 2020.  Sad face.

HOWEVER! This year, on April 25 in the year of Our Lord 2021, we're holding a Zoom reading with special poetry guests LEE HERRICK and INDIGO MOOR, and we're using this page to raise the funds.

Drop a few bucks to support these poetry activities in our community. We thank you from the bottom of our poetry hearts.
