We are raffling off three prizes to get to our goal of $5,000. Funds will be used towards helping victims and their families with any obstacles that they may encounter in their journey of healing and seeking justice.
Wow! You helped us reach the 1k goal! You all are awesome! Don't forget to share to your friends, family, and other networks!
Native communities all over Turtle Island have been subjected to violence since the first contact with settlers. Today, our Native communities are still being targeted. According to the Department of Justice, four out of five women will have experience or will experience violence in their lifetime. Most of them will be sexually assaulted with more than half of their perpetrators being non-Native. Many societal factors such as poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse contribute to this crisis. Many of our Native communities are left with no resources nor answers when one of their relatives goes missing and murdered. Without any help or funding, many grassroots organizers are left to make proactive solutions.
Great Plains Action Society is one of those grassroots organizations. Our goal is to help fundraise money to help victims and their families in their healing process as well as seeking the justice that their loved one deserves. Our goal is to create proactive solutions.
Sometimes that means we have to get creative and think outside the box. Trisha Etringer, Director of Operations, has spent her time in making these ribbons skirts and bags that are filled with goodies (self-care items) for our #MMIR #MMIW raffle. It is $20 an entry unless you opt for the 3 for $50. The skirts are made to fit 2XL, but can be sized down once the winners are announced and contacted. Other items include self-care products. The drawing will be live on May 30th at 2pm CST on our Facebook platform. Please make sure to leave your contact information so we can contact you in the event that your name is drawn.
All proceeds will go to legal fees, memorial planning, travel/lodging (for court or #MMIR-related event), educational workshop materials (paper, pencils, etc.), and domestic violence prevention (self-defense training, workshops, etc.).
