The funds will create and continue scholarships for college students nationwide. As COVID-19 continues to spread, the future has never felt so unpredictable. Now, more than ever, our community needs us. And we need you.
Founded in 1944, the UNCF has more than doubled the number of minorities attending college. Far too many African Americans and other people of color are still not able to financially consider going to college or even finish their degree programs. This exceptional organization is still filling in the gaps of many students' lives to the tune of its immortal motto, "A mind is a terrible thing to waste."
The perspective on college has taken a turn for the worse as the Covid-19 pandemic has interrupted the path of prospective and current students. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, 40% of the surveyed 1500 undergraduate students have lost a job, internship, or job offer. The black community has faced a multitude of obstacles and this one is no different. It is vital to support scholarship and internship programs like the UNCF to support black students, many of whom have had financial impact due to this pandemic. If we do not invest in our future now, then we have no future.
