We (Michigami crossing) are stand-up paddling across Lake Michigami (Michigan) in summer of 2018 to raise $$ and awareness about our incredible Great Lakes. Donations will support the Muskegon Lake Watershed Partnership.
Thanks to everyone who has supported this campaign over the past months! It has been an amazing show of support from y'all and we are so appreciative of everything from the kind words, to social media shares, to hugs, pats on the back and of course donations!
If you feel compelled to share this campaign with friends please do so quick as we will be ending Friday at midnight!
Check out our Facebook page for a variety of photos and videos from our paddle and also the training months leading up to the paddle and now our adventures after the fact!
Many thanks again to all and keep in the loop on Michigami Crossing to see what kind of future adventure we concoct up out on the waters of our Great Lakes :)
Follow my adventure as I set out to paddle around Beaver Island! Whether I start tomorrow (Sunday) or Monday will depend on what weather looks like... 🌊
We're presently at ~$7600 of our 10K goal!!
You can track my solo adventure using the below link:
I would have loved to have Daniel Bonner here with me, but the priorities of love 💖 have spoken to that "wild and crazy guy" as he prepares for what is sure to be one kick ass wedding next weekend!
Regardless, I am very excited to undertake this 43 mile paddle around the circumference on Beaver Island solo. I don't know what the mental space of paddling for ~15 hours solo will be like, but i'm excited to venture into that realm and find out.
No support boat this time, but my satellite tracker will be running and shore will always be a quick jog away. I will try to make a post right when I begin so y'all can keep in the loop!
Thanks everyone for all the support over the course of this spring, summer and soon to be fall! We're doing our best to keep the adventure flowing
Check out the LOCAL WATER QUALITY PROJECT that the funds from our paddleboarding fundraiser will go to right here in Downtown Muskegon! Our Facebook page has additional interviews with both of us as well as leaders from the Muskegon Lake Watershed Partnership about the history of Beidler creek and the Division Street Outfall.
The Green Stormwater Infrastructure that our funds will go towards will DIRECTLY help the health of this portion of Muskegon Lake, therefore positively affecting the water quality of the local waters many of us recreate on daily. This will also aid in the health of the waters from Muskegon Lake that flow into Lake Michigan, which in turn keeps our big lake healthy, clean, and beautiful for all of us to recreate in and enjoy!
Thanks to all of you for making this a possibility and be sure to swing through Rotary park to check it out every time you pass Muskegon. It ain't in great shape right now, but it's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease, and we're hoping to turn that around over the coming years.
Keep your eyes peeled on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/michigamicrossing/) for some additional adventures that may be coming up in the next month...Eric may be heading out on a long paddle on Lake Michigan again this weekend and Dan seems poised to try to paddle 100miles of the Muskegon river sometime in September... Onward to adventure!
A HUGE thanks to everyone who has donated to our campaign so far and who followed along our journey over the ~24 hours that we were on the waters of Lake Michigami! We completed 73miles of the 79mile distance in between Milwaukee and Muskegon before concerns about our own safety and the safety of our crew led us to board our support boat around 2:30am on Thursday, August 9.
We will have some articles hopefully coming out in the next few days, and if any of you all have press contacts please have them get in touch with us (email@example.com). We have a press release ready to go that accurately describes our experiences out on the water, which were some of the most incredible we have experienced. Lake Michigami certainly showed her Grandeur to us while we were out paddling.
We are over $7000 now and hoping we can get up to $10,000 in the coming weeks! This money will be used to support a Green Stormwater project planned uphill from Rotary park in downtown Muskegon. This project will specifically improve the water quality in the small bay just east of the MCC fitness center, and thus Muskegon Lake and our Great Lakes as a whole!

OMG!! Thank you ALL for the outpouring of support in the past weeks for this adventure! We are humbled at how much you all have stuck with us through this process, shared our adventures, and been so generous with your positive vibes!
While we don't know our exact departure time yet we are expecting it to be the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 8 from South Shore Marina in Milwaukee. Our chase boat will be the "Friendliest confines" (same name as the sports bar in South Bend, IN the owners of the boat run....go give them a visit!), a 55ft Sea Ray that will be driven by Mai Lynn and Bob. We will strive to make up to date tracking available from the below link:
Thanks again and we'll do our best to post here or on our Facebook when our arrival may be. We would love to see you all out there on Pere Marquette Beach where we hope to arrive :)
We are getting closer to our "expedition window" of August 7-13! In preparation we have been dialing back our longer paddles in order to rest up, refining our gear systems that we'll be using while we're out on the water and making sure that we have our nutrition dialed in the run up to our paddle. We will do our best to provide updates as we near our departure date and will try to share when our projected arrival time back to Muskegon will be so that we can see y'all out on Pere Marquette beach! Thanks again to everyone for the support and for all that you do for our local watersheds and our Great Lakes :)
Thanks SOOO MUCH to everyone who has donated to our cause over the past few weeks!!!! We were thrilled to get the media attention that we did so that we could share our story and pass along this opportunity to support our Great Lake Michigami and it's surrounding watersheds. We appreciate everyone's kind words of support and financial donations that will be turned into on the ground action to help restore and conserve the health of our Muskegon river watershed!
Keep up to date on our Facebook page as we near our weather window for our crossing from Aug 7-13!
One of our live news spots form earlier this week:
Just another view from the "deck" of our boards as we hit the water again. My wonderful mother has been allowing me to use her Riviera voyager 12'6" for the past few months as my Great Bear SUP from Boardworks (https://boardworkssurf.com/s/great-bear-2018/) was on backorder.
Luckily it is arriving by the end of the day today, so you can expect the tandem nerdy/extreme photos of myself and Dan cruising Lake Michigami on our Great Bears to start flooding in ;)
We have been training hard to prepare for our crossing while trying to make sure to enjoy the summer out on "big lake" Michigami! Luckily we both find enjoyment in extremely exhausting physical feats.... We have been a little flexible with our training regiment as well, allowing surfing to pass for "stability training," in days when the winds are high and surfs are up!
We've also been getting some press locally and across the lake over in Wisconsin! Check out the story from TMJ-4 that I did an interview for right before running a paddling summer camp with 10 kiddos from the Muskegon area! That's living life close to the water for ya ;)
We're excited to start getting some barefoot training days in to work those micro balance muscles before we have to stand on our paddleboards for 20 hours plus.... Thanks to everyone who has supported us and the Muskegon Lake Watershed Partnership with their donations thus far! Join us in going onward into the real SPRING season!! :)
