Siobhan McGuinness, was kidnapped, brutally raped and murdered in 1974. Her case went cold for 46 years and in 2020 it was finally solved thru familial DNA. I am related to this monster.
Siobhan was walking home from a friend's house in Missoula, Montana February 4th, 1974. Close to home, she was walked about halfway, and asked by her friend's mother if she was okay walking the rest of the way alone. The friend's mom had food on the stove she needed to get back to. Siobhan told her she would be OK and was never seen alive again. Her body was found in a heavily snow covered culvert 2 days later. She had been raped, beaten and stabbed. The case went cold for over 4 decades until the advancements in DNA solved this with degraded and very little evidence left. The case was solved by matching his DNA to a family member who had submitted it to 23andMe, and opted in to allow for law enforcement use.
There is currently another fundraising project for a rooftop garden and art space and this is something the may take some time. I would love to be able to give Siobhan's family something smaller and permanent that they can visit for years to come.
The family is incredibly loving and kind despite the life of pain caused by this event.
Siobhan has been described as incredibly intelligent, funny, and loving-always sticking up for and befriending anyone needing it. She loved everyone, and touched so many in her short life here, that she has never been forgotten. Please help me give this family and community a place to honor this precious girl.
