“I first got involved with Queens College Hillel through the Bukharian Cultural Club. It was important to me that I learned about my Bukharian roots while on campus, so I dragged my friends to a BCC Sukkot event. I knew no one. But quickly, people made me feel comfortable and welcome. I soon got involved in event planning. This year, my favorite event was Chai Pong. We used a silly game to teach hundreds of students about Bukharian culture and people loved it. Hearing all the amazing feedback inspired me to take on a new leadership role so that I can continue to create opportunities for students to feel as proud as I did in that moment.
Hillel is also important because it unifies college students all over the country. I share my experiences with friends at other schools and they share theirs. We learn from each other even when we’re on completely different coasts. Hillel connects me to my friends across the country, to my own personal Judaism and to my Bukharian culture.”

A little about this campaign:
Who are the Jewish students of Queens College? That’s a hard question to answer, because Queens College is home to the most diverse Jewish campus community in the entire country. It would take pages and pages and pages to tell you even a few of their amazing stories.
I can tell you this, they’re your neighbors. And, it’s likely they’ll be your neighbors even after graduation. QC’s Jewish students are not only the future of the New York Jewish community, they are the New York Jewish community.
Can’t donate? Please share. Even a quick share on Facebook can help.
The average share raises $97.
