Update #10

I also want to take a moment to thank the many folks who have contributed behind the scenes. The people who took care of my beloved pet so I could do this, who donated by other means that do not show up here, those who gave me their bed & slept on the couch so I could be rested for another leg of the journey, those who translated, those that carried my bags when I was exhausted without me even asking, those who convinced their employers to help my efforts (shout out to Wero GmbH!)... AND to my ever-patient family for understanding that I had to answer the call of my conscience. Much love!

More Info

My name is Tom Kleist. I am an American molecular biologist who is currently working in Germany. Like many others around the world, I am sickened and horrified by Russia's invasion of neighboring Ukraine. I am determined to make a difference.

Several thousand international volunteers are currently serving in humanitarian and defense roles in Ukraine. A persistent flaw relayed from folks on the frontline is that basic medical supplies are unavailable. Partnering with other volunteers from many different nations, my aim is to help remediate this deadly shortcoming through a grassroots approach.

Thank-you all for your support in the defense of Ukraine and service to humankind!

Slava Ukraini!

Update #11

Approximately 4,000 kilometers (~2,500 miles) & 56 hours by train, untold liters of sweat, 2 nights forgoing sleep, hundreds of interactions I could never forget... A highly successful trip to Ukraine... May we all continue to support our brothers & sisters in Ukraine in their fight for freedom!

Update #10

Dear All,

I have two exciting updates to share.

(1) I have a sponsor who will match all donations for the next 3 days (through Wednesday) up to $1000 (cumulative). So, if you have been considering a donation, now is the time to maximize impact!

(2) The next round of supplies will be delivered inside of Ukraine within one week. Any funds donated now will sponsor materials delivered to Ukrainians just days later.

Please keep up the support :) Thank you for your service to the Ukrainian people and humankind!

Update #8

Hey Everyone,

Thanks a bunch for donations! I am close to having a second delivery assembled.

Please note that the page does sometimes have technical issues unfortunately. I ask for your patience and suggest either (a) trying another web browser or (2) consider contacting me for other ways to transfer funds.

There have been additional donations that do not show up on the webpage -- both financial and physical help :)

I will be in touch soon with another update~

Cheers,

Tom

Update #7

4 Considerations Why a Donation to First Aid for Foreign Volunteers is a Very Good DEED:

Direct: No money or time lost to bureaucracy — medical supplies get handed from one volunteer to another vetted volunteer en route to combat zones in Ukraine. Along the way, I and other volunteers identify small contributions such as carrying luggage to help evacuees.

Economical: Every bit of currency goes directly to medical supplies — all costs for transportation, fees to service financing, & personal protective measures are paid out of pocket. Efforts are underway to have all donations matched to a more established foundation to maximize impact.

Eco-friendly: Transport & delivery rely on trains, buses, manual labor, & couches :) Repurposed sealable bags that would otherwise be trashed are used for packaging.

Diverse: Donors & volunteers from 11 different nations & 5 different continents have helped with my personal volunteer efforts alone already!

Update #6

“If you do something good… Talk about it; don’t be shy! Do you know why? Because it’s complementary. You’ve done well — you motivate others to do the same... You’re part of something big. Do your part."
