Dear friends,

It has been an incredible privilege for me to live and study in the United States for the past two years. I am an international student from Austria pursuing my graduate degree in Theology at Franciscan University.

I have a great appreciation and fondness for America. That is why I am trying to stay as long as I can and, God willing, eventually apply for an American citizenship.

My transition from Austria to the USA was miraculous. I had been a Cistercian Monk for four years prior to my move.  I still feel called to serve the Lord but discerned, with the help of my spiritual advisor, that it should be elsewhere.

One day before I left the monastery in Austria, on Aug 1, 2020,  generous friends offered to sponsor my application to Franciscan University which has enabled me to continue my vocation-discernment and theological studies. Within a week I acquired admission at Franciscan and within another week, in the midst of Covid, I got my student visa. On August 18, 2020, I arrived in Steubenville and just four days later I began classes.

I have one more year to finish my Master in Theological Sciences. My graduation will be in May 2023. For my part, I will be earning a modest income working for the University while completing my degree. However as a condition of my Student-Visa I am unable to accept regular job-opportunities. I am prayerfully asking for financial help to cover expenses for the coming year.  They are as follows:  (1) Tuition = $11,000  (2) Housing = $5,000  (3) Food = $3,000.

Before I entered the monastery in 2016 I graduated with a master in Psychotherapy-Science at the Sigmund Freud University of Vienna. Dr. Breuninger (a Psychology Professor here at Franciscan) asked me to develop a "Catholic-Coaching" program with him. We want to offer help, especially to young men and women, in finding their identity in Christ and reorganize their life towards higher goals. We are currently working on developing this program. Your charitable donation would help making this project a reality.

Remaining rooted in the Catholic Faith, I long to serve the Lord by serving others. Even the smallest gift will help me to serve where I am called.

Thank you so much for your consideration, prayers, and any financial support you are willing to offer.

Sincerest Thanks,

Bernhard Streisselberger
