When companies gobbled up local newspapers, they stopped covering small communities like Lineboro, MD, USA. So in Jan 2020, I launched a free, quarterly, hyper-local community newspaper. Donations pay for printing costs.
Every 4 months we try to print 8 tabloid-sized pages with color photographs, just 1,000 copies. This costs about $600 (printing expenses, UPS shipment, etc.) Additional annual costs include mailing copies to out-of-area subscribers, maintaining a USPS PO Box, and other ancillary software, material, and transportation expenses. Since we don’t typically run advertising in the Mason-Dixon Surveyor, this fundraising effort will help the paper to continue serving the community.
