The Bell Tower Community Cafe was started in 2013 to distribute food hampers, to serve a warm meal and hot coffee and to be a welcoming place in our community. We are working to ensure Winnipeggers are more food secure.

The Bell Tower Community is excited to celebrate 8 years of live music, nutritious food, delicious coffee and tea, and good people. For years we have opened our doors to share a meal, connect with neighbours, and meet new people. We were driven by a common goal to build community, while helping create a more food secure neighbourhood and city. So many people have contributed to the last 8 years of this vision: through your financial donations, your time, your energy, and your compassion.
The last 21 months at the Bell Tower have not looked the same. Every two weeks, approximately 50 individuals and families collect a food hamper, but our interactions are short and our focus has been on food hamper distribution. This past year had its obvious challenges, and in response, we piloted and implemented a food hamper delivery system, the only Winnipeg Harvest Food Bank that offers this service in the city. We are proud to say, that in the last year, we have delivered over 500 hampers, ensuring folks can stay home and healthy and still have access to food. Deliveries also made a huge difference in the winter months, when getting a full hamper of food home on the icy sidewalks on a cold night is difficult, even if it’s only a few blocks away.
But we miss the many familiar faces in our community, from those that are picking up a food hamper, to those who are helping build a hamper, and those who are doing both! We miss the lively activity of the community meal and great live music.
We need your help to slowly and safely rebuild Bell Tower and bring back the activity and life that we once had. One of the first things we want to do is bring back live music, like the Papa John’s Blues Trio and Bernadette Carlson. We want to be able to offer folks a hot cup of coffee and embrace moments to reconnect. And we are hopeful we will be gathering outside next summer with a BBQ and music.
