Hello Friends and Family!
Last week I finished all of the vaccinations I need for my trip and I finished paying all of my mission costs except the final $600 I need to pay off my plane ticket.

I have been completely overwhelmed by everyone's support. Each of you has given me so much by allowing me to share my story, praying with me and giving financially.

I hope each of you knows that I CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU. Every one of you is a part of this trip and I'm thrilled to be sharing it with you.

Talk to you soon!

More Info

In December of this year, I will be joining a team of volunteers to work in Uganda through Empower A Child Ministries. This mission trip is something that Christ has been preparing my heart for through my involvement in the Jackson Redeemer Church, my own personal life, and my relationships with my friends and family.

Over the past few years, I have recognized how wrongly I’ve viewed the church and outreach in general. I allowed my distorted view of myself and the people around me dictate how powerful I thought God saving grace was.  My faith was crippled by the way I thought other people needed Christ more than me - people whose lives looked different than my own. I am a stubborn and prideful person and learning the reality of my need for help, specifically Christ’s help consistently humbled me to tears. The beautiful thing about seeing my own need for help is that I have been able to feel the way Christ heals more deeply than I ever did before.

This hurt that I have been dealing with, I believe, is a universal hurt in need of healing that can only come from the God who made the universe.

Living in Jackson and being a part of Redeemer Church has played a big part in transforming the way I view the church because they have taught me that diversity is strength. The good news of the Gospel is not bound by any race, religion, sex, belief, or age. It has the ability to transform anyone and his kingdom is meant to be carried out by every kind of person. We may have different backgrounds and our strengths and weaknesses vary but we are all in need of a savior. Our brokenness binds us together when we admit that healing exists only in Christ and not in ourselves or each other.

My work with Empower A Child is a result of the way those truths have been transforming my life and an effort for me to be obedient to the person I believe Christ has called me to be.

About Empower A Child Ministry

Empower a Child began in February 2006 and seeks to bring confidence and self-sustainability to orphaned and vulnerable children of Uganda by teaching modern skills, giving the opportunity of education, and enlightening through the word of God. Currently, Empower a Child runs a primary school, sponsorship program for orphans and vulnerable children, medical clinic, women empowerment, and community development programs.

What will I be doing in Uganda?

I will be spending my time in Zirobwe serving at the Empowered Leaders Academy, going on house visits to senior citizens, leading sports outreach camps. I will also be evangelizing to the families within the village by spending time with them and assisting them in various manual labor projects.

My time in Kampala will be spent at the Sanyu Babies Home and at the Katalemwa Children’s Hospital.

The Sayu Babies Home is for children between the ages of one to five. Some have been abandoned, some parents have died, and other’s parents cannot afford to care for them. We will go play with them, sing songs, wash windows, cut firewood, wash clothes, change diapers, and help feed the babies lunch.

Katalemwa is a hospital for children with severely broken limbs and disabilities. Children come here from all over East Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Congo, and Sudan to be treated in the hospital. Many come from war-torn regions and cannot afford to pay for the surgeries. However, an international surgeon offers them free of charge as a service to them. We will go visit the children in the hospital, sing songs, teach Bible stories and have a time of crafts with them.

What can you do to help?

Pray:

Please pray for me as I prepare my heart to serve and share my faith with the people of Zirobwe and Kampala. My deepest desire is to be a good friend to them and that they would see Christ’s love through me in the conversations we have, the meals we share and the work we do together. I want to be respectful of their culture and be open to learning from them as well because I know they have been made beautifully in the image of my creator too.

Give:

I need to raise $3500 to be a part of this trip. That covers flights, missions projects and all the documents I need to enter Uganda. I know that God will provide and I trust that he will provide all the finances needed. Please prayerfully consider donating to my trip and supporting the work I’ll be doing with Empower A child. Every person who donates will receive a 5x7 print I designed featuring the words “Diversity is Strength”. It is the truth I have kept close to my heart throughout this entire process and one that I hope you will remember and take with you into your own life.

All prints will ship out the first week of December along with a note of my thanks for your Support.

Thank you for being a part of my journey to Uganda- I would not be who I am today without the love and support shown to me by each of you.
