Loving Moldova, Serving Romania

From Jess Giddings

In May I will be traveling to Romania & Moldova, with a University team, to serve along side Word Made Flesh org., to be in community with some of the world's poorest, and to care for some of it's most vulnerable.

Update #2

Hey World,
Things are happening! I've had a raging amount of support on my Fundly page. Thank you for the encouragement, the love, and the boost that your support brings. Thank you, for encouraging me to explore the ways in which God may use my life!!
It's currently midterm season here at George Fox Uni. and i'm 6 cups of coffee into my night of studying and homework. What really keeps me going though is the love and support form all of you. Humans are not designed to do life alone. We are built for community, close relationship, and to love and be surrounded by love. So here's to a productive and community filled week. May your burdens be light, your smiles be genuine, and may love abound. Multumesc for your generosity, your interest, your prayers, and your fellowship. Te Iubesc.

 Greetings Friends!

As you may have figured out by now, I'm an International Studies and Christian Ministries double major. I focus a lot of my educational efforts on economics and language. What exactly do I want to do with all of this? At this point who knows? I've always had a strong drive toward equality, to promote justice and advocate for those who can't do it on their own. Perhaps I'll be a lawyer (my Dad says), or a corporate translator (my mom says.) I guess all I can say for now is that I want to be global, I want to help where ever I can.

After an application and interview process in the fall, I was notified by George Fox that I had been selected to be a part of the 2015 Summer Service team traveling to Romania, and it’s neighboring country, Moldova. The Romania/Moldova team has a special place in my heart. The journey focuses on ministry within some of the most impoverished communities in Europe. My team will be partnered with a Christian organization called Word Made Flesh (WMF), a community of people completely sold out for Jesus who breathe his life and his love into such poverty stricken areas as Sierra Leone, Thailand, India, and many more. The bases I will be staying at during my time abroad are in Galati, Romania and Chişinău, Moldova. These particular bases focus on providing care for the families of the communities. They emphasize community building, encourage gender equality and embrace multiculturalism. Overall, within these communities, WMF supplies for the needs of the people, and teaches them how to love one another as Jesus loves them. They work especially with children, providing hygienic and educational care, and skill development so WMF can help them find jobs.

The thing that I love most about Word Made Flesh is that they encourage reaching people where they’re at, and loving them for who they are. They don’t focus on “assimilation” or “fixing” people so that they can “become productive,” but rather they build strong spiritual foundations in hurting communities, by listening to the people, and supplying not only their physical, but also emotional and spiritual needs. The greatest gift we can give another human being is that of love. This is life’s most simple philosophy.

My journey, though only about a month long, will be a building block to my life-time of serving the Lord in whatever ways he’ll have me. I am discovering a sense of purpose in my heart through all these preparations for my time abroad. In the past few years God has been guiding me by the hand, (although sometimes I’m kicking and screaming), down the path he has laid out for me. Perhaps law school lays ahead of me, or some heavy duty language emersion.

No matter the path, [what or] whom shall I fear, for God is with me.
