Update #7

Several people have donated to the campaign via other channels, so their names are not listed among the supporters, and the total listed doesn't include their contributions. So the campaign is actually at 75% of the goal! I'm especially grateful to Kay Johnson, Bill Koenigsdorf, Dave and Sonja Peterson, and Joyce Stenstrom, for your loving moral and material support. You are rock stars!!!

More Info

Hello! As you my friends and family may know, in addition to the other things in my life that I am and do (nurse, social activist, stepmom in training to three amazing creative children and partner to their dad, and outdoor enthusiast), I have chronic Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a tick borne illness that, when not caught and treated early, can wreak havoc on our health and every aspect of our lives for years and even decades. I have fought against Lyme disease since 2011, and triumphed for several years, but now the disease has come back. In addition to the perpetual exhaustion, cognitive challenges and a constant stream of secondary illnesses, I now have severe inflammation in my shoulders and forearms. The tsunami of health challenges has left me temporarily unable to do my job—or even do my dishes or shovel my sidewalk--until I can heal.

I’m raising money to take a two month unpaid medical leave from work, so that I can rest and heal my body. By creating the space to focus on healing, I can make big strides towards a full recovery. Because the leave is unpaid and most of the treatment isn’t covered by insurance, I’ll use the funds raised to defray treatment costs and basic living expenses.

As I heal I will be able to devote time and energy to my dream of helping other Lyme sufferers. I am launching an independent practice as a nurse navigator to help people with Lyme ‘navigate’ the complex and often frustrating world of treating and healing Lyme. (Doing this alone while experiencing Lyme is like running a marathon with a broken leg!) By using my unique Lyme experience and nursing knowledge I hope to steer people towards quicker healing and recovery.

With your help, I can get the rest and healing I need to recover from chronic Lyme. With your help I can get back to my wonderful, full life, and helping many other people heal from Lyme disease faster. Please help Love triumph Over Lyme!!

Update #3

Today's Public Service Announcement on Lyme Disease: Spring seems unimaginable today as the snow pelts down and our cars and boots fishtail through the ice and snow. When spring does come it will be prime season for tick bites and transmission of tick borne illnesses- including Lyme disease. Here is a link to Minnesota's Lyme prevention organization and a fun video with Prevention Pete on preventing tick bites. My biggest takeaway: You can get bit and infected WITHOUT the bullseye rash.

Thank you to Katherine Lundquist and Sybil Martin for donating to the campaign. I so appreciate your support!!

Update #2

Sending a humungous thank you out to you, recent and generous contributors!!!! Karen Gaides and Greg, Mary Gute and Tom Johnson, Karen Burger and Steve Burger, Laura Dupont Jarrett, Stacey Jones, and Rocco Bonello. I feel extraordinarily supported in my health journey and like I'm taking all of you with me!
Below is another thank you poem written by John Lundquist to Paul Hyde. If you would like similar stellar verse crafted just for you, let me know!

Paul Hyde - Your contribution:

Massive,
Epic,
Unexpected.

The Loch Ness Monster of Fundly. I saw it. I rubbed my eyes. And it was still there.

A lumbering giant, all heart – generosity slithering on tender flippers before slipping back to the deep waters of humility.

Thank you.

I wake on the shore between real and possible, dream and hope.

If only my gratitude could match so magical a gesture and fill so vast a lake.

Update #1

It's day 9 of the campaign and we are almost 25% towards the goal. Wow. I feel very supported and loved, thank you! As promised, John Lundquist has written a thank you poem to one supporter, Marka Peterson, my sis and ally extraordinaire, which is below. If you donate in any amount and would like a poem from John in appreciation, he is ready, just let us know!

Ode To Marka – an epic of gratitude

Arid, temporal winds blow the minutes like grains through glass.
The same sands Hippocrates’ sandaled foot trod into marble clinics.
The bond of sisterhood, timeless, is a constellation to navigate by.

Like Helen launching a thousand ships, Fundly launched and, like Odysseus- you piloted your vessel in solidarity.
A spear was chucked, a life line was thrown and Helen smiles from her cliff-top.
To receive a sister’s love, a gift greater than the pyramids, more sacred than Jerusalem.

We have but one, brief life to love the people in it. The grains blow on. The cliff crumbles.
Love endures.

Thank you for your gifts
