More Info

I am currently a freshman at Florida State University. Next summer I plan on studying abroad in London through the Psychology department at FSU. This is an amazing program but it unfortunately costs $10,000 (not including airfare, money for food, or spending money). This is a hefty cost, especially because I am one of five college students in my family. I currently have Bright Futures (a state scholarship) that helps cover $1,500 of the cost, and I have also applied for other scholarships though Florida State in which I could potentially be granted up to $4,000. Despite this financial help, the rest of the cost will be completely out of pocket. This kind of money, however, is not easily obtainable in my family. I am only one of five children, making this mission far less achievable. I am currently majoring in Psychology with a minor in French at Florida State University. I work extremely hard to maintain my high grade point average (a 3.8), engage in campus activities such as FSU CHAARG or Younglife, and hold a part-time job. I am extremely excited for this study abroad program because it will allow me to expand my knowledge of psychology in a way that is not possible on the main campus of FSU. Throughout the two months that I will spend in London, I will be taken on excursions once a week to exciting places such as the Freud Museum, Bethlem Royal Hospital, or Charles Darwin's Down House. During this program I will be taking two, very interesting, psychology courses that are not offered on the main campus, The Moral Psychology of British History and Individual Difference Dimensions Across Cultures in Psychology of Art. Alongside the excitement of broadening my knowledge of psychology, I will also have the oppotunity to improve my french. Since french is commonly spoken in England, this will be the perfect opportunity for me to practice the language and improve my vocabulary tremendously. I have been taking french courses since my freshman year in highschool and have continued my studies into college in the hopes that I will become fluent in the language. Anyone that knows me, knows that travelling is one of my favorite things to do. I love to explore what I have never seen before, which is a lot considering I come from a small town in south Florida. New cultures, scenery, and even temperatures fascinate me. Although I am in love with travelling, I have never been outside of the United States. Travelling abroad has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and the best way to make this dream a reality is to study abroad for two months. The one and only thing holding me back is the financial aspect of this trip. I have been working extremely hard in order to save up for this trip, putting aside all of my tips from waitressing and earning scholarships for this. Afterall, the only thing that you cannot waste your money on is travelling and seeing the world.
