Help Us Lay Our Foundation!

We are fundraising to build housing - housing for rescued off the track thoroughbreds - throughbreds who will have new careers as teachers and as healers. Who will they teach? Veterans to heal from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder; People struggling to recover from drug and alcohol addiction, and our youth who will learn about confidence, speaking the truth and achieving goals. That is our vision.

We are raising money to build the necessary shelters, fencing, and pastures so that these horses, rescued at auction, can step into their new careers - please help us raise the necessary funds - Our Goal - To Raise $25,000 one person at a time - please help us achieve our goal!!!!

Here are the costs we are looking at:

 - Clearing and Grading of Pasture: $8000

 - Four 12x12 Shelters @ $8K per shelter

 - Fencing - Pipe Panels (unless anyone has some to donate!!!) 33 Panels at $100/panel

Our goal was $25K to assist with this build out until we got some of the hard costs - so we've had a bit of an attitude adjustment and may go with a mare motel. Please help us fund this project - we so want to provide a mechanism for healing both horses and humans!

Our Mission: The Brego Foundation is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of former racehorses, raising awareness of the plight of “the unwanted horse” and engaging in community programs and outreach to drive proactive change in the horse/human relationship.

We do this through:

Extensive Networking: In partnership with a wide network of rescue organizations, The Brego Foundation activity seeks alternatives to the horrific fate of the slaughter pipeline for these former racehorses.

Education and Advocacy:  We are consistently engaged in education and creating awareness in the community at large to the plight of Off the Track Thoroughbreds through the media and our extensive network.

The Rescue, Rehabilitation and Rehoming of Off the Track Thoroughbreds:  The successful transition of our own rescued off the track thoroughbred, and his entry into his new career as equine guide, has confirmed a life long belief we have held: horses can have a profound impact on the healing of humans if given the chance. The winning spirit that resides in the heart of every racehorse can be transformed into a new career; whether that be in the show ring or as a Teacher/Healer. Former racehorses are actively engaged in working with youth, Veterans struggling with PTSD, individuals struggling with addiction and companies and organizations desiring to transform their leadership modality. The Brego Foundation is committed to providing these horses an environment where they can blossom and enter into the right career for them.

Our Goal

We have been constrained since our inception to raising awareness and passing funds through to our networked organizations that had the ability to physically take in horses. For 18 months we have been searching for our facility, a facility that could become the sanctuary for many former race horses in need of rescue, rehabilitation, re-homing and/or retirement. We have finally, after our long search, secured our sanctuary and are now needing to put the necessary facilities in place to support a number or horses we have had "in our que". We have acquired a property that has ideal land for rehabilitation but no facilities, shelters, fencing, etc. Please help us raise enough funds so that we can put the necessary facilities in place to provide much needed shelter and homes for these former race horses.

Our goal is to provide a foundation for healing, not only for the horses, but for veterans, youth at risk, and people struggling with drug and alcohol addiction through our community service programs.
