Troop#10943 is wanting to give back to Lindsey's 1st grade students in Fresno. We need help to surprise each child with their own school supplies, a new coat and some other special items. Anything helps!! Thank You!
When hearing about Lindsey's 1st grade students I knew our Girl Scout Troop could help. Here is a little about Lindsey and her students:
'This is my second year of teaching and I became their teacher in August. The challenges they face aren’t so much Fresno but this area of Fresno. The community (it is a technically a little city) called Pinedale. These families come from generations of poverty and families who have immigrated. A lot of my students are English language learners and have Spanish only speaking parents. 93% of my students live at or below the poverty line. 89% of my students are Hispanic. The area is also infiltrated by the Bulldog gang. My students sadly experience unstable homes, violence, drug problems, all types of severe trauma.
Obviously these don’t apply to all of the students. I always say the community is segmented into two. There’s the half that has been in the community for generations and are affiliated with the drugs, gangs, etc. The other half are hard working immigrants just trying to provide their child with a better life.'
Our Troop goal is to give these kids a special gift during this December Holiday. Please help these sweet Angels.
