Liberation Microsanctuary

From Emily Vallies

We are raising funds to help all of the rescue hens at our microsanctuary get a Suprelorin implant. These implants save the lives of many hens by slowing their reproductive systems to a more natural rate.

More Info

At Liberation Microsanctuary, there are currently 9 rescued hens living out their lives. There were 10, up until about a week ago. Susan passed away due to a tumor that took up most of the inside of her little body. Tumors like this are unfortunately very common in egg-laying hens. Hens are bred to over lay eggs, due to human demand & this causes tumors, cancer, egg yolk peritonitis and other potentially fatal ailments. We learned about the Suprelorin implants about a year ago, but were unable to find a vet who performed this on hens. Our new vet is able to implant these in hens and we are very eager to do this to help the hens live a more natural and happy life that doesn't revolve around egg laying. Hens are such amazing beings with unique personalities. In the next couple of weeks we have two more rescue hens joining the flock here and that creates a total of 11 hens to get the implants. The cost of each implant is $185 plus a $72 vet visit fee. We put our goal here, but please know that any donation is helpful, even $1 and we are SO GRATEFUL to anyone willing to help these ladies out! <3
