Chris Shewchuk is seeking the Liberal Party of Canada Nomination in Victoria. Raised in Vernon, Chris has lived in Victoria for over a decade. Chris first answered the call to serve his country at an early age when he joined the military as a Canadian Forces officer. Still a part-time reserve officer today, leading the Cadet Program, Chris continues to dedicate himself to the community and our nation by staying active with the military and serving on various community boards. He currently serves in board roles for organizations that support veterans, emergency preparedness, our nation’s youth, and people struggling with homelessness. Today, Chris’ call to service is to represent the Victoria riding as its next Member of Parliament. He is energetic about getting Canada’s natural resources to market. He will build on environmental protections for our region as marine traffic continues to increase. Chris believes it is critical that Victoria and Coastal BC are at the table developing a west coast solution to marine based projects that help grow the economy, protect our environment, and reduce the globe’s dependence on fossil fuels. Chris previously worked for BC Ferries, and the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA). He works on the front lines of public health policy, first with VIHA and now at the Ministry of Health. Actively involved in developing healthcare strategies and promoting healthy living by increasing the number of family doctors, improving access to primary care and addressing medical wait times. As a Canadian Forces Captain Chris is passionate about providing treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), for veterans, and first responders including Firefighters and Paramedics. Chris is excited to work with Victoria’s bustling technology sector and enthusiastically supports the growth of the digital film industry.
