Wanna make the most of Pride Month? Help a poor gay couple! Jake & Liam are moving to Oxford for Jake's new PhD program and they could really use some help with the immigration fees required for the big move!
I (Jake) will be beginning a three-year PhD course at Oxford University's Dept. of Medieval & Modern Languages to dive head first into my decade-long passion for theater in the Soviet Gulag. Liam, my ever-supportive partner is coming with me!
After a ton of hard work on both our parts, including organizing a magical, intimate civil union ceremony in Princeton, New Jersey, we have just completed the visa application process to ensure that Liam will have the right to live and work in the UK throughout my course. It was during this process that we encountered a major hurdle: thanks to some new UK immigration laws (and mainly a new "health surcharge"), each of our visas wound up costing us over $4,000 EACH! Given that we are making some pretty big, and costly life changes moving together to another country, the $8,000 upfront fees for our visas have put us in a little bit of a sticky wicket (already warming up our British English).
Unfortunately, after several unsuccessful pleas for financial assistance from Oxford, we decided to turn to our loved ones for a bit of support, so we can set off on this amazing new adventure together on solid footing, and ready to enjoy the once-in-a-lifetime experiences that are in store.
Every little bit counts a lot and if we can make a dent in that pesky 8,000, you'll be looking at two very happy civil partners!
Thank you so much for your support!
