Purchase of the two building we are currently renting. That would give us the funds that we use for rental to be used to improve and expand our program. We are currently servicing students K-12 and running out of space.
In 2017, we lost someone special to us due to an act of gun violence. She was a innocent bystander. Jalayah Hackman, 20 years of age, a full-time college student at the University of North Alabama, with high dreams to finish college, flourish in her career and return home to give back to her community. We as a family, took her dream and made it a reality. Our program, Let My Dream Live Thru You, consists of mentoring, tutoring, career development and ACT prep. We have currently implemented a literacy program as well. Within the two short years of service and being established we have awarded two scholarships to high school seniors. In 2018, we awarded a $5,000 scholarship and in 2019 we awarded two $2,500 scholarships.
The mission of Jalayah Hackman foundation is to mentor the youth, teach leadership by building strong and trusting relationships, encourage positive attitudes, improve academic achievement and provide students with the opportunity to learn about potential career options. To provide extensive time for purposeful reading, writing, speaking and listening experiences in all content areas.
We are currently renting two building out for out after-school program for students K-12. The funds we are trying to donate will all go towards buying the two buildings. The funds that we would normally use for rental will go towards improving and expanding our program. As mentioned before, we have added a literacy program which is a big need in our area. With that comes need for books, more staffing and more space. The funds that we use towards rent each month would go towards making sure we had the proper material for each one of our programs to be successful, staffing to ensure each student is getting the proper attention they need to be successful and a chance for us to expand our location to gives us more space for each student.
