Education for Change Public Schools is a nonprofit organization that manages six K-8 charter schools in East Oakland, California.  They are Achieve Academy, ASCEND, Cox Academy, Lazear Charter Academy, Learning Without Limits, and World Academy.  EFC's mission is to provide a superior public education to Oakland's most underserved school communities by creating a system of public schools that relentlessly focuses on our students' academic achievement.  Our schools have an average of 95% of students qualifying for free and reduced lunch and are located in Oakland neighborhoods that have high levels of violence and poverty.

Like all public schools in California, EFC's schools have seen its budgets decimated by the state cuts, and at a time when our teachers and children need more to be competitive in the 21st century, we have less.  Budget cuts have severely limited our ability to provide arts programming, after school care, academic and social/emotional interventions, family support, technology. classroom libraries, and increased science and social studies.  We continue to provide quality core instruction, but we are struggling to provide anything "beyond the basics," and we are very aware that our children cannot be competitive with their peers with just the basics.

This is our second "Beyond the Basics" Fundraising Campaign to raise money for the invaluable programming children need to truly excel and compete.  Last year, EFC supporters donated over $50,000 directly to our schools.  With those dollars, we were able to dramatically increase the student:computer ratio, purchase classroom libraries, and provide access to field trips.  Help us provide the quality educational experiences all children need and deserve!!  100% of your donation will go directly to the school of the staff person you are supporting.
