Our dear friend, Kaleigh Renee Kiliszewski, also known as KK/Krocket/Kalez/schmoo was born on June 14, 1987 in Scottsdale, Arizona. Once graduated from Northern Arizona University, Kaleigh moved to beautiful Santa Barbara where she began working in the hospitality industry.
On Wednesday, Ocotber 9, 2013 Kaleigh's life was forever changed. Experiencing excruciating chest pains, she admitted herself to the emergency room. It was there that she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. What began as a large tumor in her chest had spread to her bone marrow.Kaleigh started chemotherapy on Saturday, October 12, 2013 and is currently being treated at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
While she has made much progress throughout her treatment, she still has a long road to recovery. Still spending weeks in the hospital & unable to work, a financial burden should be the least of her worries. Kaleigh is creative, loving, and full of life. Kaleigh has an amazingly positive attitude and sees the good in all people and things. She's a tough girl and is ready to fight. As she goes through treatments she continues to remember "maitri", which means unconditional loving kindness to oneself.
In support of Keleigh, I will be running the Huntington Beach Surf City Marathon on February 2nd, 2014. I would like to get donations via sponsors for each of the 26.2 miles. A minimum of a $25.00 donation gets one of the miles. Once you have donated, simply write in the comments section which mile you would like to sponsor. Even if you do not want to sponsor a mile, a donation of any sort makes a difference and is greatly appreciated.
If others want to join in and participate in the marathon or even half-marathon in support, we could all start together. It is the Surf City Marathon on Sunday Feb 2nd, 2013 in Huntington Beach, CA.
