LEGACY Foundation President Jonathan F. Smith plans to lose 100 pounds in a campaign to demonstrate to youth how to be healthy, raise awareness about the troubles facing inner city youth. LEGACY is working to develop programs to address the problems of illiteracy, youth violence and childhood obesity.
On Saturday, September 29, we are hosting a Zumba-a-thon as a back-to-school event, with which we're hoping to supply 1,100 students with backpacks and school supplies. Students will visit the University Of Missouri -Kansas City (UMKC) campus where the Zumba-a-thon will take place. They will come in and sign up to receive school supplies. But before they get the school supplies they will need to participate in a 30-minute workout with a Zumba instructor or trainer.
We believe that in order to promote a healthier society that we have to put our children in a position where they are equipped with options to live a healthier lifestyle. That's why we're tying the Zumba-a-thon and to the school-supply giveaway. While the students are working out, their parents will receive information on UMKC, organizations that offer tutoring programs and also get a tour of the university campus. The parents and students will also receive information and instruction on health/wellness activities, such as how to shop for healthy foods, cook healthy and exercise suggestions. Students will receive information on conflict resolution.
The students from our summer youth arts/theater program will put on a showcase that will culminate a full day of activities aimed at promoting youth literacy, tackling the issue of childhood obesity and deterring youth violence.
If you or your organization would like to donate supplies please do so by Saturday, September 22. Please send an email to email@example.com to arrange a pick up or make a financial donation and we can get the supplies for the youth. With each monetary donation of $10 you will be able to become a book bag sponsor and personalize a bookbag with an encouraging or motivational message for the upcoming school year for our students (Fill in the form).
The person the farthest away that donates will receive a LEGACY T-Shirt.
Each person that donates a minimum of $100 for this event will go into a raffle for a sign CD by Marsha Ambroisus.
Stay tune for other incentives to help raise funds. As the donated items increase in value, so will the qualification. Visit the website often. (All donations will be verified before awarding gifts)
