I am raising funds for my sister's legal fees not limited to attorney retainer, filing fees, court costs and fees, and fees related to upcoming domestic relations case.
Hey Family and Friends - I started this fundraiser on behalf of my sister to cover her lawyer retainer fees and other legal costs for charges brought against her as a result of her defending herself against the father of her child.
Due to the open nature of her case I can only share limited details about what happened. The incident occurred on August 23, 2020. My sister was arrested on September 24th. Myself and my parents have been sharing care-taking duties of my nephew Kaiden since she was arrested. However on Friday, October 9th, Kaiden was unknowingly picked up from school by his father, who cannot appropriately care for him and who has not cared for him in any real measure for the past 5 years of Kaiden’s life.
Most immediately she is needing representation to get the restraining order lifted that the DA put against her which prevents her from seeing her son Kaiden. Kaiden has been almost exclusively in her care for the entire 5 years of his life. However when she was arrested and charged the restraining order went into effect and so she has not seen her son Kaiden in 20+ days now.
My sister is a very very private person and to be frank she has never identified herself as a victim of domestic violence despite the many times that I have personally witnessed abuse or heard about it second hand.
Part of acknowledging the harm of Domestic Violence is also acknowledging the rates at which black women are arrested and imprisoned as a result of domestic violence calls in which they are the actual victims and not the men who call the police on them. It has happened to me, and I see it happen time and time again in the legal community. I am only a law student and can only do so much to help her so I am reaching out to the community to get her the help she will need to get out of this situation and reunite her with her son.
Thank you so much.
