Our current social climate requires that schools recognize and celebrate the diversity of cultures among us. In recognition and celebration, special events are held at our school to recognize various cultures' historical contributions to American and World History. In line with this goal, Lawrence High School has recognized Black History during Black History Month for the past five years with a grand celebration.

This being our sixth year, we are embarking upon another great opportunity to educate the community about historical contributions made by African-Americans, to celebrate the rich culture of a great people and to honor those who are still paving the way for future generations. One of the largest events hosted by the school, it is a faculty facilitated, student led event, which boasts anywhere between 350 to 500 attendees. The event, scheduled for Friday, February 22,  is free to the public and features art, music, dance, cultural dish samples, student and guest presentations and performances.

In order to offer this event free of charge, grant funds are acquired from the local teacher's association. Unfortunately, not all needs are met with those funds due to strict grant policy. In order to pay for guest performances and speaker honorariums, we are tasked with fundraising. Your contribution will help us meet our goal and expose our students and the surrounding community to inspirational performances and motivational speakers.
