We are raising money to officially launch LENA as a nonprofit org. Money raised will be used for materials and fees that further our mission of lessening single-use plastic waste through awareness and education.
During the Summer of 2018, a group of preschool children and the adults they inspired started The Straw-Less Initiative. They asked restaurants and individuals to be more thoughtful about their plastic straw use (saying no thank-you to plastic straws if not needed). They were motivated to do so when they learned that sea turtles and other animals were eating plastic and getting sick. They also knew that straws and other plastics were littering our earth. They wanted to "Help the Earth be the best Earth." These small voices convinced 10 restaurants to hand out straws only when requested. They also attended a City Council meeting where they received a Straw-Less proclamation.
While these young children have moved on to other things (like learning to read, play instruments, tumble in gymnastics, etc.), the adults they inspired are keeping their message alive through The LENA Project (Less. Empower. Notice. Act.). The LENA Project aims to empower young voices and to bring awareness and education to our community regarding the single-use plastic waste problem.
