Larissa's Dream

My great niece, Larissa Johnson, received a life-changing gift in January of this year—a new heart. Larissa has been battling congenital heart defects since birth, and her journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. I want to share her story with you and ask for your support in making her dream come true.

In October of 2022, Larissa was rushed to Driscoll Children's Hospital in Corpus Christi, TX, as her heart was failing. The doctors informed us that she urgently needed to be life-flighted to a pediatric heart transplant hospital in Houston. Our journey led us to Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital, where Larissa was placed on the heart transplant list. She showed incredible strength and resilience as she bravely fought for her life, waiting for a compatible donor. While some children wait for many months, God smiled upon us, and in less than two months, on January 9th, 2023, Larissa received her new heart. 

The road to recovery was filled with challenges and moments of fear in the initial weeks after surgery. Larissa entered the hospital on October 18, 2022, and finally, at the beginning of July 2023, she was able to return home. It's a true testament to her strength and the power of faith that she's doing remarkably well today. Despite a significant scar on the left side of her chest, you wouldn't even know she endured such a harrowing journey. In her mere 11 years, Larissa has faced more adversity than most of us will encounter in a lifetime, yet she continues to wear a radiant smile and maintain a positive attitude.

Now, here's where we need your support. During her time in the hospital, all Larissa could talk about was her dreams for the future once she was healed. She never wavered in her belief that she would overcome this challenge. She expressed a deep desire to visit New York City during the Christmas season, to witness the grand Christmas tree in Times Square and experience the joy of ice skating in Central Park. However, as you may know, travel costs have increased significantly.

We are doing everything within our means to turn Larissa's dream into reality, but we recognize that we can't do it alone.
