I walk daily to exercise for myself and my dog. I walk to explore the world around me. I walk to spend time with my friends. I walk to clear my head. I walk to daydream. I walk to hear and see the birds. I walk to connect with the earth. I walk to reconnect. As a local yoga instructor it is important for me to connect with the community and be in touch with the earth.
theWALK is a unique, contemplative walking experience that calmly guides attendees through a historical and culturally rich environment. theWALK fosters a reconnection between people and their surroundings through a focus on intentional listening. Groups of people will move together quietly throughout the Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area.
Walking is an integral part of our everyday living - some of us walk to work, walk the dog, walk in protest, or walk for a cure - but rarely do we walk to engage the fullness of silence and listen to the world around us. Walking can have a profound effect on our wellbeing and helps promote divergent and creative thinking. theWALK is an opportunity to practice the art of walking in way that is reflective, thoughtful, and constructive. The event is accessible to people of all abilities to experience and learn more about intentional listening and everything it can create.
The proceeds generated by theWALK directly and exclusively benefit the work of the Museum of Walking including museum exhibitions, artist honorariums, research, artist-led mindful walks, community partnerships, social engagement and outreach for the only museum in the United States of America solely dedicated to the practice of art and walking. Additionally, partial proceeds will go to Native American Connections.
