About Me

Your donation directly provides building materials, accommodates teams, and creates future opportunities for the local Macedonian community. Habitat for Humanity would not be able to exist without generous financial support from donors and the hard work from volunteers.

In 2018, I chose Macedonia for my 5th Global Village project, and I was inspired by the culture and the work that Habitat for Humanity has done throughout the country to provide adequate housing to those who need it most.

In 2019, I made it my goal to complete the leadership certification so that I could continue to make Macedonia a Global Village destination.

Now, in 2020, my mission continues as I step into my first leadership role with an amazing mentor and 18 passionate volunteers.

AND! That's not all! Once again, my dad, Patrick, is joining our team. When he volunteered in 2018, I thought it was going to be a memorable father-daughter moment that we'd share just once. When I told him the May 2020 trip was in the works, he marked his calendar without thinking twice. It'll be a wonderful experience to share in seeing the progress that's been made since our first trip together, and be able to work side-by-side again.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support!

More Info

Though Macedonia was fortunate to gain independence from the former Yugoslav republic peacefully in 1991, it was the least prepared for its new status and has since been among Europe’s poorest countries, with an unemployment rate of over 30% and 1 out of every three citizens living below the poverty line. Fifteen percent of the population lives in illegally constructed buildings – many in squatter settlements with little or no access to clean water or sanitation.

We invite you to join our Global Village team in partnering with Habitat Macedonia families in Veles, Macedonia’s second-largest city, to provide simple, decent and affordable housing solutions regardless of their ethnic background, gender, or religious affiliation.

Global Village is Habitat for Humanity’s international volunteer program. Teams travel to over 40 countries to work alongside communities, build housing solutions, and experience local culture. Our goal is to change the lives of the people we serve, as well as the lives of the volunteers.

About Habitat for Humanity International

Driven by the vision that everyone needs a decent place to live, Habitat for Humanity began in 1976 as a grassroots effort on a community farm in southern Georgia. The housing organization has since grown to become a leading global nonprofit working in more than 1,300 communities throughout the U.S. and in more than 70 countries. Families and individuals in need of a hand up partner with Habitat for Humanity to build or improve a place they can call home. Habitat homeowners help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Through financial support, volunteering or adding a voice to support affordable housing, everyone can help families achieve the strength, stability and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves. Through shelter, we empower. To learn more, visit habitat.org.
