Last year, we started our journey with Habitat to help sponsor a family in the local community in an effort to help them achieve their own Habitat Home. In our first effort, we raised just over $4,000 for our sponsor family. With our help they were able to receive the 63rd home given by Habitat for Humanity of Champaign County.
Our goal is to not only help give someone a home, but to change the way we view philanthropy on this campus. We want to shift our focus to the cause itself and have our members get closer to the people that we are helping. We are striving to make a difference in a few people’s lives with efforts from each and every one of us. We hope that you will help us on our journey to better the lives of others.
Last Year’s Sponsor Family
Connita and Marshawn Sayles received their home a few months ago thanks to the generosity of our donors as well as numerous others in the local community. Connita is still in school, studying to become an RN, while Marshawn now has a permanent home to live in thanks to his determined mother. As she said best, “I want him to have somewhere he can call home forever. This will be the house that he will grow up in and go to college from and much more.”
This Year’s Sponsor Family
Our new Sponsor is the Belford Family consisting of a single mother and four children. Ms. Belford volunteers by counseling young girls to stay in school and avoid teen pregnancy. She is a foster parent and has adopted two of her foster kids. We look forward to helping this family just as we helped with the Sayles family last year.
