Chocó is among the largest producers of platinum and gold in Colombia and one of the richest in natural resources. With 82% (2006) of Black Colombians residing in this department and 40% of the population composed of youth, the inhabitants of Chocó are also the second poorest inhabitants in Colombia with 7 out of 10 children malnourished.
For the past two years, Luis Barbershop, an Afro-Colombian business has sought to support youth returning back to school by providing them with toys and school supplies. This year, we are expanding our village by inviting Black Chocó Tours, Colombian expats, and other companies and organizations supportive of the African Diaspora region to partner with us.
On January 7, 2023, in Quibdó, Chocó, Luis Barbershop and Black Chocó Tours (BCT) will set the goal to supply 100 youth with toys and school supplies in one of the poorest neighborhoods. With free food, fun, and reggaeton, we hope to encourage and inspire the next generation of Black Colombian youth to know they are important, valued, and worthy of love and care.
We invite you to join us in support of these efforts. Through your generosity, you will not only help us purchase supplies and toys, but also ship supplies from other regions of Colombia to Quibdó, Chocó from those making in-kind donations.
