First of all, we have the most hardworking, passionate, and dedicated staff. How is that? Because we are primarily staffed with South LA youth who have come up through the very same RootDown LA programming. As a youth driven organization, RootDown LA is dedicated to continually fostering youth leadership. Youth who are empowered to create impact in their community, with clear goals, tools, and support. This allows us to have a deep understanding of the neighborhood needs, and the talent of youth advocates to bring about change.
RootDown LA ambassadors teach their community to love, grow, and cook their veggies. And now we want to support the next logical step for our youth, pursuing career pathways! By offering structured culinary programming we can provide the technical education, business tools, and the industry certification needed to produce healthy/fresh catering opportunities, and the chance to develop their own products for resale. By utilizing our network of urban farms, students are free to concept, grow, and develop their own ideas with the support of mentors. Successful programming would bring about the positive impact of community growth through lucrative career development, and access to delicious, healthy meals that are locally grown and produced!
